An example of visual and narrative concept design / branding that expanded into a physical space—the Tytyri Mine.
The City of Lohja commissioned me to create a mountain troll tale and its characters, which I later adapted into a printed book.
- I conducted background research drawing upon the Lohja Museum, literature, historians, archives, and interviews.
- Authored the book
- Designed the characters and illustrated the work
- Carried out the graphic design and layout
- Managed book printing and production
- Handled the publishing of the book
- Managed book distribution and shipping to subscribers, retailers, and libraries
For the book, I carried out thorough research into Lohja's mining history, including interviews with former miners. For years, Tyyra of Tytyri and Kalle the Miner served as the theme for immersive guided tours in the Tytyri limestone mine in Lohja.
Based on the book, I also created an activity book that was distributed to every first-grader in Lohja. The book has additionally been used as source material in academic research on mountain trolls.
